Art Classes

Drawing

We are a student-centered art academy.  Since drawing is the foundation of painting, all painting students are assessed by their ability to draw. After the initial assessment of the student's ability and their achievement goals have been ascertained, we develop an action plan that best suits the students needs.

Some of the projects that the students may embark on include:

_______________________________________________________

Beginning Drawing I (Form Drawing/Bargue Plates): In this introductory class the student will investigate different methods of drawing form - from line to value. The student will learn how to develop a drawing from two-dimensional to two dimensional representation utilizing time-honored Bargue plates.

Beginning Drawing II (Casts): In this introductory class the student will investigate different methods of drawing from the still-life. The student will learn sight-sizing, gridding, clock angles, and measuring. Through perceptual observational techniques, the student will accurately transcribe, with graphite, what is observed and what is interpreted.

Beginning Drawing III(Complex Still-Lifes): In this class the student will develop complex still-life drawings that exemplify a confluence of design and concept, while developing their artistic voice.

Life Drawing Techniques (Models, Still-Lifes): Following all the techniques learned in the Introduction to Drawing class, the student will create and develop drawings that study the anatomy and movement of the human form. The student will develop advanced skills in shading and modeling.
